DELIVERING VITAL HEALTH CARE to some seven million Australians across a vast 7.69 million square kilometre land mass, can be challenging. But it’s what the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) does best. For almost 100 years, the RFDS has been committed to reducing the disparity in rural and remote Australia and to caring for those communities who need it most.
With a current fleet of 87 aircraft – including planes, jets and helicopters – and 294 road-service vehicles, today the RFDS is recognised as one of the largest and most trusted aeromedical organisations in the world. And it’s why the RFDS remains at the forefront of the latest in aviation, medical, research and communications technology. The broad-reaching RFDS ground-service fleet delivers emergency medical services, cutting-edge research and primary health specialists into some of Australia’s most isolated communities and wherever mainstream medical services are not available 24/7, 365 days a year.
As a national health charity, the RFDS is proud to be supported by a vast number of volunteers and fund-raising communities. Treating up to 900 patients each and every day, the RFDS also works closely with local communities to deliver an ever-increasing range of targeted, primary health services. From remote GP and nurse clinics through to mental health, dental, tele-health and allied health services, along with chronic-disease management and emergency medical care, the RFDS is proud to serve as a vital lifeline for those who live, work and travel in rural and remote Australia.
